Anthony A. "Tony" Miele

Naples, FL. - Anthony A. “Tony” Miele, 92 of Naples died Saturday, May 13, 2017. Formerly from Niles, Ohio.

            He was born October 17, 1924, in Niles, Ohio the son of the late Philip and Julia Miele.

            He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather who was always willing to help anyone with anything.

He graduated from Niles High School in 1942 and played in the Warren Junior Military Band from 1939 -1942. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1945 where he received the OSU Lamme Scholarship for Mechanical Engineering 1944-45.

He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and was a Tau Beta Phi Engineering Honoree in 1944. He served his country in the US Navy. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer before founding Miele Engineering in Warren, OH and later established Western Matic Corporation. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. of Warren, OH and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He obtained his private Pilot's license in 1994 at the age of 70. He then moved to Florida in 1997.

He enjoyed golfing, wine making, traveling and his trip of a lifetime was his trip to Italy. He especially enjoyed playing with his little fur child Penny, who will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ruth Miele, a son Philip Miele of Columbus, OH, a daughter, Marianne Miele (Ben Vanhorn) of Naples, a daughter-in-law Brenda Miele of Mineral Ridge, OH, grandchildren Erin and Nick Miele of Mineral Ridge, OH, Philip and Maria Miele of Columbus, OH, step-children, Mark (Lisa) Tochtenhagen of Nashville, Lisa (Mark) Olsen of Fairfax, VA and step-grandchildren, Raeleigh and Mason Tochtenhagen of Nashville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Filomena "Fannie" Iannizzaro Miele and a son, Anthony F. Miele.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, July 7, 2017 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niles.

Burial was in Niles City cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
