Maureen Charnas

June 15, 1931 ~ May 6, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Warren -Maureen Charnas, age 85 of Warren, Ohio, was called home to make the night sky much, much brighter on the morning of May 6, 2017. Maureen was surrounded by her husband and children and three of her grandchildren when she embarked on her greatest journey yet...

Maureen was born on July 15, 1931 where the Rapids are Grand in Michigan.

She graduated from St Alphonsus in Grand Rapids before moving out to California to work at Central Casting in Hollywood, where shortly after her arrival she met and fell in love with a dashing U.S. Naval Officer, Steve Charnas, on the isle

of romance, Catalina. Their 63-year marriage would span the globe with tours of

duty in Naples, Italy and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and extensive world travel.

They would produce 4 children, and be grandparents to 11 grandchildren and 3

great grandchildren.

Maureen enjoyed many interests, learning the art of SUMI-E painting and

classical guitar while living in Brazil. She loved reading, and dancing,

swimming and sailing, playing tennis and she played a mean game of ping pong.

Anyone fortunate enough to know Maureen, knew immediately how she would light up

the room with her quick wit and quick to laugh demeanor. She loved nothing more

than making people laugh... And the best seat in the house was always, always,

always next to her. Her biggest fan, her husband (this is hotly contested by her

children...), Steve would regularly say that Maureen should've been syndicated.

And he was right...

While Maureen's humor was brilliant, she was made of tough stuff, an unsinkable

Molly Brown... Raising her children overseas while her husband was a U.S. Navy

Pilot who was regularly away for months at a time. And all the while standing

tall for what she believed in and speaking her mind, even if her voice shook.

Maureen was kind and gentle, yet steadfast in her support of others, especially

the underdog.

Maureen leaves quite a legacy in her wake, survived by her husband, LCDR Steve

C. Charnas of Warren, her children, Christopher Charnas and his wife, Dr. Jeanne

Charnas  of Orlando, Florida, Kally Nickel and her husband, Scott Nickel of

Canton, Ohio, Craig Charnas and his wife, Nancy Charnas of Cortland, Ohio, Kevin

Charnas of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, her sister, Patricia Przybysz and her

husband, Thomas Przybysz of Grand Rapids, Michigan, her grandchildren and great

grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces and friends.
