Howland – Richard Neil Hagan, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Gillette Nursing Home.
Neil will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends for his smile, sense of humor and outgoing personality.
He was born November 29, 1933, in Bethesda, Ohio, the son of the late Harvey and Ruth (Anderson) Hagan and moved to the Warren area as a teenager.
Upon graduation from high school, Neil continued his education at GMI earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and also earning a degree in accounting from Warren Business College.
He was employed for over 40 years with Packard Electric as an Electrical Engineer and retired in 1991. Following retirement, Neil was self-employed as a manufacturer’s representative.
Neil served in the National Guard as a rifleman for three years earning the rank of Sergeant and then following the call to provide freedom for our country he enlisted in the United States Army where he was a medic aidman earning the rank of (E-5). He proudly served overseas in Germany and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
Neil was a former member of St. Pius X Parish and currently a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton Parish (SS. Cyril & Methodius Church) where he was an usher, past member of parish council and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Warren Elks Lodge 295, the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council 13260 in Vienna and the Bishop James A. McFadden 4th Degree Assembly in Warren.
Neil had many passions throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, gaming, reading, Polka dancing with his beloved wife and especially spending time with his grandsons. Neil was also a very proud member of AA where he had over 35 years of sobriety.
He is survived by his wife of over 61 years the former Clara (Futey) Hagan whom he married November 10, 1956 at SS. Cyril & Methodious Church, a son Dr. Neil B. Hagan, currently of Champion, a daughter Colleen (Charles II) Zallow of Howland, four grandchildren Corey E. Zallow, Carl E. Zallow, Chad E. Zallow, and Brian Jankoski, four great grandchildren, a brother Robert (Bettye) Hagan of Springfield, OR, and a sister Brenda McFarland of Columbus.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bruce Hagan.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (SS. Cyril & Methodius Church) with Rev. Craig A. McHenry officiating.
Burial will take place at All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta with military honors provided by the great men of the Trumbull County American Legion.
