Howland – Stella Charnas, 87, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic.

            She was born March 13, 1930, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Peter (Pantelis) and Calliope (Tripodis) Katsaros.

            Stella received an associates Degree in accounting from the Cleveland Business School. She worked for the U.S. Government (NASA) for ten years before co-owning and helping her husband in his business A. C. Charnas and Associates Engineering Service and Drilling Corporation.  During this time she was also an active member of the National Society of Professional Engineers – Engineers’ Wives.

Stella treasured her family, faith, and heritage and attracted all to her by her very social and loving manners.  Her home was the center of frequent family gatherings and open to all.  She had deep faith in the Lord, knowing that we are all in His hands.  She was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren and was active in their Senior Citizens and Yasou Clubs.  She was also a member of the Pan-Icarian Daedalos Chapter of Warren.  Stella loved knitting and left numerous projects as keepsakes for family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and days out with her friends.

            She is survived by her children Calliope (Mike) Perry of Warren, Chris (Michelle) Charnas of Niles, Peter Charnas of Warren, Penelope “Pam” Charnas of Chagrin Falls, and Sister (nun) Theodoti (Constance) Charnas of St Paul’s Monastery Lavrion, Greece; seven grandchildren Alexandra (Derrick) Bush, Ariana DeVengencie-McBride, Jason DeVengencie, Nicholas, Aris and Michael Charnas and Coco Aristea Benger; three great-grandchildren Connor McBride and Penelope and Calliope Bush; a brother Nikitas (Constance) Katsaros of Hinckley, OH, and a sister-in-law Argie Katsaros of Westlake, OH.

            She is preceded in her departure to the Lord by her parents, her husband of 58 blessed years, Aristithis “Arch” Charnas whom she married November 27, 1955, and who passed away August 13, 2013, and a brother Gus (Constantine) Katsaros.

            Family and friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. Trisagion and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483.

            The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren, with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.

            Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren, Ohio.

            In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Stella’s name to St. Demetrios Church Scholarship Fund 429 High St. Warren, Ohio 44481.
