North Jakson - Elwood A. “Stoney” Stone, 94, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Antonine Village in North Jackson.

            He was born October 14, 1924, in West Decatur, PA, the son of the late Lloyd and Elsie Stone.

            He retired in 1985 from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a bridge Forman after 18 years. Previously he owned and operated Stone Trucking Company for 20 years. Elwood obeyed the gospel in Baptism in May of 1974 serving as an elder at Westside Church of Christ in Clearfield, PA, and Cortland Church of Christ and recently was a member at Columbiana Church of Christ. He enjoyed reading, gardening, working on car engines, TV repairs, and was a jack-of-all trades and a master of all.

            Elwood served our country in the U.S. Army, WWII in the 95th Infantry Division where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Patton’s Army.

            He is survived by his wife Alice Jean Stone of 68 years, two daughters Marcia (Gary) Bailey of Canfield, and Janet (John) Bayus of Champion, four grandchildren Daniel (Meredith), Andrew and Chrissy Bailey, and Dylan Spence, five great grandchildren Emmett, Quincy, Harper, Leon and Isabell.

            He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother DuPont Stone and two sisters Beryl Kenyon, and Sybal Owens.

            Family and friends may pay their respects Friday, March 22, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 11:00 to 11:30 at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483.

            A military service will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at the Funeral Home.

            Burial will be in Stoneville Cemetery, in Clearfield, PA.

            In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Elwood’s name to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market St. Youngstown, Ohio 44512 and or Antonine Village 2675 N. Lipkey Rd. North Jackson, Ohio 44451.
