Harry E. Ponikvar

Warren - Harry E. Ponikvar, 88, of Warren, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, November 21st, after an extended illness.

Harry was born July 14, 1930, in Warren to Frank and Mary (Strukel) Ponikvar. 

A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, he attended Kent State University before receiving a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Youngstown State University in 1952.  Harry was employed at RCA in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Grinnell of Warren before retiring in 1991 after 38 years with American Welding and Manufacturing Co.

Harry was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Warren, where he served as a money counter.  He also was a member of the Breakfast Club and the Knights of Columbus, and he was a volunteer with Mobile Meals.  Harry enjoyed international travel, playing bocce ball, attending civic music concerts at Packard Music Hall and shows at Trumbull New Theater, and sports played by Ohio State and all three Cleveland professional teams.  He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, as well as a dear friend to many.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joanne (Racher) Ponikvar, along with children Paul (Carla) Ponikvar of Hinckley, Ohio, Patricia (Mark) Van Gunten of Columbia, South Carolina; Thomas (Cathy) Ponikvar of Columbus, Ohio; and Philip (Lynn) Ponikvar of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and seven grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank W. Ponikvar, also of Warren. 

Family and friends may pay their respects Monday, November 26th, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Parish (St. James Church) 2532 Burton St. SE, Warren, Ohio 44484.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Church with Rev. John R. Lody Officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley (Trumbull Branch) 5190 Market St. Youngstown, Ohio 44512 and/or Trumbull Mobile Meals 323 E Market St. Warren, Ohio 44481.
