WARREN-Helen T. Taneri, 88, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 1, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital from complications of a stroke.
Helen was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Warren, the daughter of the late John and Theresa (Liberatore) Astolfi.
She graduated from Warren G. Harding in 1948 and The Ohio State University in 1952 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught Spanish at Bazetta High School until starting a family. Later she was employed part-time at Alba House Communications, for over 20 years.
Helen was a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and continued her faith at St. John Paul II Parish. She was active in the Worship Committee and served as a Lay Leader of Prayer. She was also a Catechist for RCIA and CCD, a Liturgical Trainer for Eucharistic Ministers and a Lector.
In her free time, Helen loved quilting, sewing and crocheting. She enjoyed the dedicated and fulfilling time she spent serving her church. Her greatest joy was the many and frequent family gatherings full of food, love and laughter.
Helen married William “Whitey” Taneri on October 9, 1954, 63 years ago, at St. Mary’s Church in Warren. He survives her along with their six children, Susan (Jack) Senvissky, William Taneri, Nancy (Marty) Higham, Gary Taneri, Darla (Bob) Plant and Janet (James) Goranitis, all of Warren, twelve grandchildren Tim (Karen) Phares, Tony Pecorelli, Jennifer (Jason) Kohn, Amy (Aaron) Kitzmiller, Michelle (Bruce) DiLullo, Kimberly Phares, Emily Taneri, Megan (Mike) White, Lauren (Christian Cavalier) Plant, Bobby Plant, Ian Wilcox and Megan Goranitis, ten great-grandchildren Timmy, Gavin, Jayden, Haley, Gillian, Ryan, Peyton, Blake, Lexie and Logan, and a sister Rosetta (Pat) Dixon.
She is preceded in death by brothers Arch and Vince Astolfi and sisters Josephine Crain and Matilda Fiorino.
Family and friends may call Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Paul II Parish, St Joseph Church 420 North Street NW, Warren, Ohio, at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 6, 2018 with Fr. Christopher Henyk officiating.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Twp.
