HOWLAND – Katie Ticoras Koenigsberg, 83, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Katie was born December 30, 1934 in Sykia, Corinth, Greece; the 9th of ten children born to George and Sophia (née Paleologou) Katsaros.
She came to the U.S. in 1955 and married Attorney John W. Ticoras on March 15, 1959; they shared 33 happy years, until his death on May 24, 1992.
Katie had a deep passion for travelling, cooking and entertaining, and was an avid reader. She loved volunteering for various organizations, including Meals on Wheels, and was an active member of St. Demetrios Church, where she served as President of both the Philoptochos Society and Daughters of Penelope. She was a member of Trumbull County Bar Association Auxiliary. On December 6, 1996, she married Robert Stefanos Koenigsberg of Cincinnatti; they enjoyed a whirlwind romance, until his death on September 20, 2001.
Katie was a loving and endlessly generous mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all, including her four children, Becky (Jeff Bell) Russo of Warrenton, Va.; William Ticoras of Howland; Spyros (Alexandra) Ticoras of San Antonio, Tex.; George (Stacy Hunter) Ticoras of Howland; five grandchildren, Nicolas (Ann) Bell, McClain (Thomas) Herman, Evan Bell, Olivia Bell, and Katina Ticoras; one great-grandchild, Mary Jo Bell; a brother-in-law, Mitchell W. Ticoras and numerous nieces and nephews, both here and in Greece.
She was preceded in death by her dear parents who raised her in Greece, George and Sophia; her aunt and uncle who became her adoptive parents, Spyros and Florence (née Wallace) Katsaros of Cincinnati; her two husbands; her sisters and brothers in Greece: Eleni Triandafilou, Vasilios Katsaros, Elias Katsaros, Evanthia Kyriakou, Vlasia Kollarou, Apostolos Katsaros, Victoria Tsiafoutis; and Dimitra “Tula” Georgakopoulos of New York, NY; and Sotirios Katsaros of Cincinnati.
Family and friends may pay their respects 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2018, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Service immediately follows at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
