Girard – Perry C. Shinas, 89, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 where he resided at Kirtland Rehabilitation and Care in Kirtland, Ohio.
He was Born October 28, 1929, in Youngstown, Ohio the son of the late Constantinos and Meropi Shinas.
He was a 1948 graduate of Girard High School. He retired in 1990 from GM Auto Workers-Delphi Packard as a dye setter after 30 years. Perry was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren, Senior Citizens Club, Yiasou Club, and the Ikarian Club all at the Church. He enjoyed lighthouses, woodworking, fishing, and gardening.
Perry served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp, in the Korean War, and had marched in Inaugural parade for President Truman.
He is survived by a son John D. Shinas of Atlanta, GA, Mary Anne (Eugene) Molnar of Ormond Beach, FL, and Lea (Mike) Wiertel of Bratenahl, OH, four grandchildren Athena (Joe) Merklin, Taylor Molnar, Aegeas Wiertel, and Elijah Wiertel, two great grandchildren Hailee, and Hunter, a brother George Shinas of Cleveland, a sister Kathryn Athanasiou of Greece, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Cleo “Cleopatra” Shinas whom he married July 7, 1953 and passed away June 30, 2018, and a great grandson Zander Merklin.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Family and friends may also pay their respects on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 429 High St. Warren, Ohio 44481.
There will be a Funeral Service held on Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, with the Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.
Burial will take place at Pineview Cemetery, Warren where military honors will be provided by the great men of the Trumbull American Legion.
