Champion - Stephen Joseph (Steve) Millik, 93, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Select Specialty Hospital in Warren, Ohio Wednesday August 8, 2018.
He was born October 31, 1924 in Glenn Robbins, Ohio the son of John and Margot Panyik Millik and moved to Warren, Ohio in 1927.
A lifetime resident of the Warren area, Steve grew up on the North End of Warren, where he lived until he moved his growing family to his ranch he called the Ponderosa, in Champion Township.
Steve married Faye Miller on June 5, 1948 at St. Mary’s in Warren and was a devoted loving husband for 70 years. Steve’s love of God, family and country was evident throughout all his days.
Steve served in the United States Army during World War II for the Army Corp of Engineers in the Asia Pacific Theater; Burma-India-China. He was promoted to Master Sergeant and given Honorable discharge with three Bronze Stars and WWII Victory Medal.
Steve worked 39 years for General Motors Packard Electric Div. as an Industrial Engineer until retirement in 1980. He served as President of the American Society of Tool Engineers.
Steve was a founding member of St. William Parish in Champion, beginning in 1961, when it was first a mission offering mass at Central School. He was dedicated to his church and served as one of the first ushers and as the Head Usher for many of his 57 years at St. Williams. Steve was proud to say he was an Usher for a total of 72 years in his lifetime. Steve was active in the church community and served on; Parish Council, Building and Finance Committees, Men’s Club, Friday night Bingo, and Annual Festival Committee.
Steve proudly served 10 years as Commander for the #2662 VFW Post in Champion. He was devoted to his leadership role and will be remembered for his patriotic presidential speeches at the VFW meetings.
Steve was also an active community volunteer. He was on the committee that started Champion Senior Housing (now Woodland Meadows) and served 15 years as President, 10 years on Champion Township Zoning and Planning Commission, 1970 Head of Heart Assoc. heart drive; and member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife Faye Miller Millik, and his six children; Ellen Millik of Warren, John (Nora) Millik of Cortland, William Millik of Warren, Peggy Millik (Terry) McBane of Gilbert, Arizona, James Millik of Cortland, and Barbara Millik of Champion.
He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren; Jennifer Polivka (Jeffrey) Anderson, Robert Polivka III, Joseph (Rachel) Millik, Rodney Shevel, Brian Shevel, Mary (Kevin) Stevenson, Linda Millik, Michael Millik, Stephan (Nicole) Millik, Faith (William) Patrick, Eleshia (Ryan) Fakner; and nine great grandchildren.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margot Millik, his sister Mary Litz, brother John Millik, and grandson Nolan L. McBane.
Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483, and Friday, August 17, 2018 from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. William Church 5411 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, Ohio 44483.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church with Rev. Michael D. Balash officiating.
Burial will be in Champion Twp. Cemetery with full Military Honors.
