Warren - Sylvia Gianoutsos, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Washington Square Health Center.
Sylvia was born Sevasti Economos on December 16, 1930 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to Zacharias and Ourania (Grammatikos) Economos.
The family moved to Warren in 1946 where she made her home the rest of her life. She married Peter (Panayiotis) Gianoutsos on April 19, 1953. Sylvia retired from Packard Electric in 1987 and spent her retirement years traveling to Greece to visit relatives. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and casino trips, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Philoptochos Society, Senior Citizens Club, Yasou Club and the Koursaron Society.
Sylvia is survived by daughters Effie (Tom) Deuble, RaNae (Oral) Polan, grandchildren Suzanne (Brian) Griffiths, Peter (Ashley) Zock, Jason (Evelyn) Polan, Jessica Horodyski, Jennifer Julian and great grandchildren Mia, Laci, Chase, Kayla, Paityn, Macyn, Addison, Giovanni, Neiko and Eli. She also leaves behind her sister Antoinette Mark, brother in-law Michael Gianoutsos, sister in-law Diamondo Gianoutsos and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband Peter, her parents, brothers Harry and Nicholas, sister Constance and her Washington square companion George Sevastos.
Sylvia’s family would like to extend deepest gratitude to Washington Square Health Center for the wonderful care, compassion and love they bestowed on her the past four years of her life where she made her home.
Family and friends may pay their respects Friday, January 4, 2019 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 429 High St. Warren, Ohio 44481.
A service will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Church with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Sylvia’s name to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 429 High St. Warren, Ohio 44481 or the Philoptochos Society.
