Warren - Alex J. Caroots, 97, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at Lake Vista of Cortland. Alex was born June 12 1916 in Red Jacket, W, Va. the son of Louis and Veronica Caroots. He came to Warren in 1929. Alex retired in 1978 from Republic Steel as an Assembler in the machine shop after 43 years and never missed a day of work. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Cortland. Alex enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, gardening, outdoor activities and traveling especially to Las Vegas. Alex served in WW II in the Army 101 Air Bourne, European Theater, was one of the band brothers, Invasion of Normandy, Operation Market Garden in Holland and the Battle of Bulge where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart, two bronze stars, and Mertorial Service Accommodation. He is survived by his son Mark S. Caroots of Mineral Ridge, OH, twin daughters Marcia A. "Marcie" Caroots of Howland, OH., and Monica I. (Bernard) Misiura of Burghill, OH., six grandchildren Erika (Jason) Sable, Justin Misiura, Lori (Shawn) Schexnaildre, Jon Miles, Kari (Mike) Evans and Nikki Caroots, and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth "Betty" Caroots whom he married May 15, 1948 and passed away May 16, 2008, son: James Caroots, daughter-in-law: Barbara Caroots, four brothers: Alexander, John, Louis and Steve Caroots, and five sisters: Rose, Anna, Veronica and Esther Caroots and Elizabeth Tokosh. Family and friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. Service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Kish officiating. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta Twp. with full Military Honors.
