Cortland - Alexandria Jonelle Shafer, 21, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at University Hospital in Cleveland, with her loving family by her side, after a short battle with leukemia. She was born March 10, 1994, in Warren, Ohio the daughter of Amy Jo Hunter and Christopher James Shafer Sr. She was a 2012 graduate of Lakeview High School and was attending Hiram College, majoring in Biology. She was an assistant manager at the Family Dollar in Cortland. She enjoyed riding horses, camping, bonfires, she had a great love of animals and anything outdoors. Alex will be forever remembered for the smile on her face, always happy and loving attitude. Alex is survived by her parents, a brother Christopher J. Shafer Jr. of Cortland, paternal grandparents Kevin and Karen Kuriatnyk of Cortland, and Jim Shafer Jr. of Braceville, maternal grandmother Linda Hunter of Niles, and paternal great grandparents Kenneth and Betty Jones of Cortland, and Jim Bates of Howland, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Alex will be dearly missed by everyone, especially her favorite uncle, Kyle and her boyfriend, Matt Lewis. Family and friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. A service will be Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
