Obituary

Warren - Alice M. Flask, 73, passed away Monday morning April 18, 2016 at University Hospital in Cleveland in peace with her family by her side. Alice was not a victim but a survivor having successfully fought a three and a half year uphill battle following a diagnosis of Burkitt's lympoma in November 2012 that she fought with tremendous bravery and grace. Her spirit during that time will never be forgotten. She was born August 26, 1942, in Masontown, PA, the daughter of Theodore "Skip" and Mary Alice Shoaf. Her family came to Warren in 1955 and Alice graduated from St. Mary's High School in Warren. After high school she worked at Warren Telephone Company as a receptionist for five years. Alice married Vincent J. Flask on May 1, 1965 and would have celebrated 51 years of Marriage in a couple of weeks. Alice was a member of St. Pius X Church and she along with Vince coordinated the Giving Tree Program during the holidays for several years. Alice also participated in several bowling leagues which she enjoyed until her illness. She was also a volunteer at Warren General / St. Joseph Hospital for 30 years along with serving on the Auxiliary of St. Joseph Health Care Center. She especially enjoyed coordinating jewelry / shoe / book sales which were held in the hospital. Alice was also a 13 gallon blood donor. Alice enjoyed visiting casinos, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, but her favorite athletes were the ones who called her "Nana". Alice and Vince thoroughly enjoyed attending their children and grandchildren's events which included sporting events, dance recitals, award assemblies, political coordination, and school plays to name a few. She is survived by her husband, Vincent Flask of Warren, a son Warren Councilman Vincent S. Flask, and a daughter, Mary Beth (Rodney) Hedge of Newton Falls. The lucky ones who called her "Nana" include: Stephanie, Vincent John, Joshua and Geovanni Flask of Warren, Samantha Shamrock of Akron, Olivia and Holly Hedge of Newton Falls, and Carson Walker of Lordstown and three great grandchildren: Evangeline, Graham, Arabella. Alice is also survived by a sister, Peggy (Tim) Tracey of Howland and a brother, Jim (Margie) Shoaf of New Jersey. Alice was preceded in death by her parents and great granddaughter, Kaydance. Family and friends may call Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, April 22, 2016 from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Parish (St. Joseph Church) 420 North St. NW, Warren, Ohio with Rev. John R. Lody officiating. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to The Hope Lodge 11432 Mayfield Rd. Cleveland, Ohio 44106 which provided Vince with free lodging so he could be with Alice during her cancer treatments at the UH Seidman Cancer Center.
