Howland - Bessie (Kontos) Sfikas , 91yrs of age, passed way surrounded by her loving family on the 24th of February at Trumbull Memorial Hospital She was born in Warren Ohio on March 5, 1923 and Married to Pete S. Sfikas. On February 10, 2015 they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Bessie and her husband were Restaurant owners In Dubuque Iowa for 45 years and founding members of St. Elias the Prophet, Greek Orthodox Church in Dubuque Iowa where they raised their 3 children. After retiring, they returned to Bessie's home town of Warren, Ohio Bessie was a dedicated member of both St. Elias The Prophet Greek Orthodox Church in Dubuque Iowa, where she was a member of Philoptochos Society and Daughters of Penelope and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren Ohio as a member of Senior Citizen and Yasou Club. Bessie is preceded in death by her loving Parents, Nicholas M. and Anna (Karousis) Kontos, Sisters, Marigo Bourekas, Argiro Lagos, Irene Bogas, and Brothers Mike and George Kontos. She is survived by her husband Pete S. Sfikas, Sister Rhea Bournais, Children Chrisanthe (George) Pirgousis, Stamos (Laura) Sfikas, Anna (Dean) Nikolaides. Grandchildren, Andrew G.(Despina) Pirgousis, Kyriaki (Leonardo) Gonzalez, Peter S. (Lindsay) Sfikas, George (Ashley) Sfikas, Vicci Sfikas, Christopher and Antonia Sfikas, Dr. Maria (Andrew N) Pirgousis, Kirk (Nicole) Nikolaides and Pantelis Nikolaides And Great Grand-children, George, Panayioti and Nektarios Pirgousis, Chrisanthe Gonzalez, Stamos, Kiara, Alana, Ariella and Hailee Sfikas, Nickolaos and Konstantinos Pirgousis and Dean Nikolaides Bessie was the center of our world. Her passionate devotion to her Church, unconditional love and care she shared with her Husband, Children, Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren will carry us through the rest of our lives. She showed love and affection to everyone she met and would greet them with open arms. She was loved, and cherished by all who knew her. Bessie's legacy of love and devotion will live with us forever. We lost an Angel! Family and friends may call on Sunday March 1, from 3;30 to 5;30 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 5pm and Monday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren, Ohio. Funeral Service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with Father Costantine Valantasis Proestamenos officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
