Michigan - Bruno Giordani, age 96, died peacefully at home in Ann Arbor MI on December 31, 2013. He was born on June 3, 1917, in Rome, Italy, to the late Filippo and Giovanina (Agneni) Giordani. After obtaining a law degree from the University of Rome, he undertook postgraduate studies at the Oriental Institute of Rome and then was awarded a scholarship to study in Japan just at the outbreak of World War II. While studying in Japan, he was interned in a concentration camp for several years. After the war, he worked for the United States Army as an interpreter and eventually made his way to the US. He obtained a master of comparative law degree from George Washington University in Washington DC in 1952, passed the bar exam shortly thereafter, and then gained employment at the Italian embassy. He retired with the degree of Cavaliere Ufficiale in 1982. After retirement, Bruno continued to live in Bethesda, Maryland, where he devoted himself full time to his passion for art and earned art degrees from Montgomery College and the University of Maryland. In 2000, he and his wife of nearly 60 years, Johanna Margaret (D'Amico) Giordani, moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and later, to Silver Maples in Chelsea, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Johanna; his brother, Giordano (Olympia) Giordani of Rome, Italy; and his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Arnold D'Amico (Mary) and Albert D'Amico (Josephine). He is survived by his son, Bruno J Giordani (Anne) of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Helen and James Giordani of Ann Arbor; his brother-in-law, Louis D'Amico (Maye) of Asheville NC; two nieces Ann M D'Amico (Michael Caticchio) of South Euclid OH and Elaine D'Amico of Cleveland OH; and two nephews, Louis D'Amico, Jr. (Amy Walsh) of Arlington VA and Filippo Giordani (Carla) of Rome, Italy. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, Ohio 44483. Mass of Christian burial 11:00 AM Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 232 Seneca St NE, Warren, OH 44481 with Rev. Bernard Schmalzried officiating. Interment at All Souls Cemetery, Warren, Ohio.
