WARREN Charles Joseph Manofsky Sr., 98, of Warren passed away peacefully Friday February 12, 2010 at St. Joseph Health Center.
Charles was born Dec. 15, 1911, in Farrell, Pa., son of the late Matthew and Anna Vozar Manofsky. The family moved to Warren when Charles was a young boy and he graduated from Warren G. Harding High School. Known to everyone as Charlie, he was united in marriage and devoted to his wife of 52 years, Helen E. Hlas, who preceded him in death. He owned a dry cleaning business and worked for U.S. Gypsum for 30 years in its Warren plant.
Charles was a devoted father and husband and enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening and canning his prized vegetables and fruits. He became a good cook and enjoyed baking for family and friends.
Charlie and Helen had three children, the late Phyllis Irwin and is survived by his two loving sons, Carl (Kathy) Manofsky of Oak Brook, Ill. and Chuck (Debbie) Manofsky of Columbus. He has nine adoring grandchildren, Charla Irwin (Brad) Buncher, Eric (Tina) Irwin, Matthew, Benjamin, Kathryn and Anne Manofsky, and Peter, Edward and Elizabeth Manofsky.
Charles was the second oldest of 12 brothers and sisters. The surviving siblings are Matthew (Marty) Manofsky, Bill (Marge) Manofsky, Robert (Bernadine) Manofsky and Raymond (Diane) Manofsky. He was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Hlas, Bernadette DiGiacobbe and Barbara Eustace, and brothers, Joseph, Nicholas, John and Cyril Manofsky.
He will be missed by his dear friend, neighbor and caretaker, Dennis Stout.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St. Warren. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 301 High St., Warren, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery. aIn lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home.
