Cortland - Christine "Grammy" Pompili, 82, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 22, 2016 at Lake Vista of Cortland with her loving family by her side. Chris was born November 18, 1933 in Falls Creek, PA, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Catherine Salada Murray. Mrs. Pompili was a graduate of Sharon High School and came to the Warren area in 1956 after marrying the love of her life, Paul T. Pompili Sr. on April 14, 1956. Paul and Chris had a beautiful life together, devoting their lives to serving others, raising their 3 children and fostering many others. Their greatest joy was spending time with family and loved ones. Chris retired from the Alba House Christian bookstore in the Eastwood Mall after 16 years, a job which she loved. Christine was an active member of St. Roberts Bellarmine Catholic Church. At the church she enjoyed quilting, attending daily mass, and helping with numerous activities such as the church rummage sale. Chris had formerly been a member of St. James Catholic church in Warren. Mrs. Pompili was also a member of Cortland Scope, and had been a volunteer at Trumbull Mobile Meals. She was fond of traveling, going to the Warren Civic music concerts, working on puzzles and reading. Chris is survived by one daughter, Teresa Eschman and her husband Joseph of Cortland; daughter-in-law Mary Bernard of Savannah, GA; and foster son Jeff Bierworth of Anderson, IN. "Grammy" leaves behind grandchildren, Andrew Eschman and his wife Lauren of North Royalton, OH; Rebecca Pykare and her husband Justin and Daniel Eschman all of Cortland; Holly Rudman and her husband Kevin of Silverton, OR; and Adam Ramos and his wife Anitra of Warren. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren. Mrs. Pompili also leaves behind a brother, Bryce Murray and his wife Greta; sisters-in-law Lois Murray, Ann Pompili and Lucille Harden, brother-in-law Vincent Pompili and numerous nieces and nephews. Christine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul Pompili who passed away March 5, 2011, a son Paul Pompili Jr., a daughter Linda Pompili, a brother James Murray and two sisters Shirley Stitt and Bonnie Murphy. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at St. Roberts Catholic Church in Cortland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Christopher Cicero officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date in Niles City Cemetery.
