Howland - Claudia (Jones) Sabat, 87, of Howland, passed away on October 19, 2026.
Claudia was born in Warren on October 20, 1938 to William and Blanche (Dudek) Jones. She graduated from Leavittsburg High School, where she was lovingly known as “Corky.”
Claudia brought joy wherever she went and had a special way of lighting up every room she entered. Known for her warm smile, quick wit, and colorful clothing that matched her spirit, she was truly one of a kind. Lighthearted, and never one to sugarcoat things, Claudia told it like it was. She had a gift for making people laugh and leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Claudia’s passion for volunteering led her to devote 20 years to Hillside Hospital, along with countless hours supporting schools, scouts, and church. She generously made a lasting difference in the lives of many through her kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Family was the heart of Claudia’s life. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and play; always there to deliver a special, hand-selected snack to them each time she saw them. She cherished the many years spent traveling and fishing with her beloved husband, Joe, and loved bringing family and friends together. Holidays were hosted by Claudia and filled with love, laughter, home-cooked meals and freshly baked pies. Family and friends lucky enough to be hosted by Claudia will remember. She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, embroidery and cheering on her favorite Cleveland sports teams.
Claudia will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her, especially her son, Joseph (Debbie) Sabat, daughter, Mari Sabat, daughter-in-law, Patty Sabat, her six grandchildren whom she adored, Joseph Jr. (Emily) Sabat, Carly (Zack) Kesler, CJ (Katie) Hura, Tom Hura, Steven Sabat Jr. and Ben (Kayla) Sabat; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary (Bob) Rising and Kathleen (Jim) Kistler and brother Robert (Kathy) Jones. Her legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on through them and all the lives she touched.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 65 years, Joseph; and her son, Steven. We find comfort imagining Joe, Claudia, and Steven reunited around a campfire, enjoying campfire pies together.
Family and friends may pay tribute to Claudia on Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 10:00 am until 11:20 am at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE, Warren.
There will be a prayer service held on Saturday at 11:25 am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish - Blessed Sacrament Church, 3020 Reeves Road NE Warren, with Rev. Edward Stafford presiding.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Champion.
Though Claudia had a special love for flowers, she wished to be remembered through donations made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Shriners Children’s of Ohio, One’s Children’s Plaza, 2 West, Dayton, Ohio 45404.
