LIBERTY TOWNSHIP – David R. Herdman passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 13, 2018, at his home. He was 76 years old.

"Dave" was born in Youngstown on Nov. 18, 1941, a son of Wren and Grace Herdman.

He was a graduate of South High School and went on to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he would serve for six years before his discharge at the rank of Private First Class.

He worked as a machinist for more than 55 years, working for City Machine and Wean United before his retirement. Dave was an excellent carpenter and enjoyed woodworking, building and finishing many items in his home. He also enjoyed going to car shows and tinkering in his garage, and was active in various activities at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Vienna.

He leaves behind, to hold onto his precious memories, his beloved wife of more than 48 years, the former Patricia Slavin, whom he married on Oct. 11, 1969; their children, Tom Herdman and wife Holly of Los Angeles, Kathy Chismar and husband John of Columbus, John Herdman and wife Shawna of Austintown, and Paul Herdman and wife Caroline of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren; his brother, Bill Herdman of Tennessee; and sister Arlene Dean of Florida.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Bob Herdman.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday evening, April 17, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Rd. NE, in Warren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna with the Very Rev. Frank Zanni V.F. officiating.

Friends may also call one hour prior to the start of the Mass in the church.

Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown.
