"Don" Thompson

Champion - Donald M. "Don" Thompson, 66, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 15, 1947 in Canton, Ohio the son of the late Franklin G. and Mary Elizabeth Thompson. He was a graduate of Labrae High School. Don retired in 2006 from the Howland Township Road Department as a Forman with over 30 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, the outdoors, his dog Rambo, and traveling with his family and friends. Don was a very generous person and loved to help people in any way he could. Don served in the U.S. Marine Corp 2nd battalion 1st Marine in Vietnam and received two Purple Hearts. He is survived by his two daughters Toni Thompson of Warren and Kelly Thompson of Vienna, a stepson Matthew Durandetta of Hartford, a stepdaughter Michelle (John) Franklin of Cuyahoga Falls, three grandchildren Brendan Busse, Olivia and Rylee Matheny, one brother Tom (Linda) Thompson of Arizona, two sisters Patti (Jay) Olson and Debbie Partin both of Indiana and a sister-in-law Rene Thompson of Indiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda L. Thompson and a brother Frank Thompson. Family and friends may call Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. In lieu of flowers contributions' may be made in Don's name to the Wounded Warrior Project 301 Grant Street, Suite 900 Pittsburgh, PA. 15219.
