WARREN - Dorothy Beca, 87, of Warren peacefully passed away from complications of Alzheimer's Disease Monday, May 30, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Bitner, Pa., the daughter of George and Anna Mehallick Mochnacky.
She lived in Bitner, Dunbar (near Uniontown), Pa. and Weirton, W.Va., coming to Niles as a child and living in Warren for her adult life. Dorothy graduated from Niles McKinley High School.
She had worked as a teletypist at the Niles Times and at the Warren Tribune Chronicle.
For many years, she was a lunch mother at SS. Peter and Paul School. Dorothy enjoyed sewing and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandson. She also enjoyed concerts at Packard Music Hall and listening to Rusyn folk songs and dancing polkas.
Dorothy was generous and kind to everyone she met. She enjoyed meeting and talking with people and also was known for her wonderful smile.
Dorothy was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. She volunteered as a member of the St. Benedict's Auxiliary, the Altar and Rosary Society and weekly bingo. Dorothy was also active in the Deaf Parents Club.
Dorothy's husband, John Beca Jr., whom she married April 26, 1947, passed away June 22, 1965. Dorothy's second husband, Paul Nochta, also preceded her in death.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Ruth A. Billcheck and friend John Krivan of Warren, David (Linda) Beca of Howland, Irene (Robert) Webster of Green, Mary (James) Martin of San Diego, Calif. and Helen (Robert) Baltenbach of Niles; her grandchildren, Amy (James) Metzendorf, Ann (Brian) Draghi, Kyle (Celisa) Beca, Greg Beca, Adam Webster, Jennifer Webster, Andrew Martin, John Beca Martin ''Jake''; and a great-grandson, Alexander Metzendorf.
Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Dorothy's family gives special thanks to Dr. P.Y. Solanki and staff of Youngstown, the Antonine Sisters Adult Day Care of North Jackson and Hospice of the Valley. All were very important in her care the last years and days of her life.
Donations in Dorothy's honor may be given to the Benedictine Sisters of the Byzantine Rite, 169 Kenmore Ave. N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483.
