Cortland - Earl C. Gisewhite, 91, of Cortland passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at St. Joseph Health Center after a brief illness. Earl was born August 2, 1924, in Meadville, the son of Marie Gisewhite. Earl enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines during WW II. He was a Pharmacist's Mate Third Class in the Third Assault Amphibian Battalion and served in the Pacific Theater where Earl earned the Victory medal and Good conduct medal. Earl worked for the Talon Zipper Company in Meadville until 1965. He then moved his family to Cortland and was employed by Packard Electric as a heat treater until his retirement in 1991. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Cortland. Earl was an avid sports fan and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and the Penn State Nittany Lions. He was an avid reader of Westerns and he enjoyed John Wayne and any Cowboy movies and Country Western music. Earl is survived by his wife of 64 years Madeline Gisewhite, three daughters Karen Esposito of Howland, Cheryl (Barry) Piper of Youngstown, and Laurie (Bob) Greenwood of Mecca and four sons, Earl Jr. (Patty) of Champion, Dan (MaryJo) of Howland, Tom (Lynn) of Warren and Mike (Kim) of Texas, twenty two grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Earl was preceded in death by his grandfather Charles who raised him, his mother, twin brother Merle, a grandson Greg Gisewhite and a son-in-law Paul Esposito. Family and friends may call Monday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church 4659 State Rt. 46 Cortland, Ohio 44410. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church with Rev. Carl G. Kish officiating. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery with full Military Honors.
