"Fred" Zimmer

Cortland - Atty. Frederick C. "Fred" Zimmer, 87, passed away August 19, 2016 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born June 30, 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA. the son of the late Frederick and Emma Zimmer. Fred was a graduate of Boardman High School, a 1956 graduate of The Ohio State University and a 1958 graduate of The Ohio State University School of Law. He moved to Warren in 1958. He was employed at Evans, Gentithes and Meermans Law Firm which eventually became Meermans, Zimmer and Cauffield. He was president of and taught fitness classes at the Warren YMCA, was very active in the Howland Rotary, belonged to The Ohio State University Alumni Association and the Trumbull County Bar Association and previously served as Howland Township Attorney. He enjoyed golfing and traveling; he was an avid Buckeye fan. Fred served in the U. S. Army from 1948 to 1952, reaching the rank of Corporal. He is survived by his wife Marilynn Zimmer of Cortland, his children Linda (Mark) Leventhal of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Jon (Johanna Canlas) Zimmer of San Diego, CA, Jim (Tammy) Stoshak of Dublin, OH, Marcie (Milton Chavez) Stoshak-Chavez of Oak Park, IL, and thirteen grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Wilbert Zimmer, and a sister, Alberta Zeber. Family and friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483. A service will follow at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Eisweirth officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Fred's name to the Disabled American Veterans, Trumbull County Chapter 11, 2044 Youngstown Rd. SE, Warren, Ohio 44484.
