Warren - George S. Gania, Sr. 89, of Warren, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side at Washington Square Nursing Home on May 14th, 2018.

He was born April 26, 1929, in Warren, to Samuel and Elena Gania.

George was a 1948 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and throughout his high school years was in the Naval Reserves. He is a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and spent 3 years on active duty as a fireman on the USS LST 762.

George was employed at American Welding and Mfg. Co. as a machinist and retired in 1991.

For over 20 years he enjoyed traveling with his wife to Ocala and Tavares, Florida to escape the cold Ohio winters.  His interests included fishing, woodworking, drawing, golf, gardening, bowling, boating, playing the slots at casinos across the country and being with his family. He loved collecting baseball hats from his travels and had quite the collection at one point.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Virginia, whom he married on April 12, 1953; his son George S. Gania, Jr. (Mary Anne), daughter Jeni (Gania) Nelson (Geoff), son Jerry Gania (Pat), grandsons Geoffrey Gania, Preston Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Sammy Gania, Jeremy Gania and granddaughters Tiffany and Stephanie Chimento and Emily Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Anna Radu, sisters Helen Rimar and Mary Stan.

Family and friends may visit Friday, May 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church in Warren. A service will follow with the Rev. James Barkett officiating.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
