Niles - George N. Makris, 92, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles. He was born September 11, 1922 in Warren, Ohio the son of the late Nicholas and Ethel Makris. He was 1940 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. George retired in 1997 from the Warren Baking Company as a route salesman after fifteen years. He had previously worked at Warren Sanitary Milk Company as a route salesman for thirty seven years and owned and operated Four Lane Grocery in Leavittsburg for ten years. He was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren, AHEPA #88, United Commercial Travelers Association, I Carian Club, and the Yasou Club. He enjoyed golfing, making and racing slot cars and had won numerous championships at Dilly's Raceway and was an avid NASCAR sports fan. He served in the U.S. Army WW-II during the European Theater. He is survived by his two daughters Dena Kay Manfredi of Howland and Irene (Wilbur) Hall of Warren, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, a son-in-law Anthony Manfredi and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Katherine "Kay" Makris whom he married October 13, 1946 and passed away January 10, 2007, and two sisters Dora Hafner, Mary Carby. Family and friends may call Thursday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. A service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
