Obituary

GEORGE THOMAS TOMASKI 89, currently of Springfield, Ohio, went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 31, 2014.

A native of Warren, Ohio, he was born April 2, 1925, the son of the late George (Senior) and Mary (David) Tomaski.

He married Nellie Glazer on December 29, 1951. He was a 1943 graduate of Greene High School (Trumbull County), Youngstown University (B.S. in Education, 1951), and Kent State University (Master of Education, 1954).

Mr. Tomaski was a retired school teacher, having taught at Warren, Ohio elementary schools, and Crosby Elementary School in Akron, Ohio. He also worked with adults, teaching reading and communications at Mahoning Valley Vocational School. Later, he became the director of basic education and program learning centers at the Manpower Training Center in Akron.

A member of the "Greatest Generation," Mr. Tomaski was a World War II veteran, receiving the Purple Heart for his service with the 28th Infantry Division in Germany. He was a member of Trumbull Post 2662 Veterans of Foreign Wars, for which he thoroughly researched the Post's history, and served as Commander.

He was also a fourth degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus: Council 547 (Akron), for which he served as Grand Knight, and Council 11646 (Cortland).

Mr. Tomaski loved singing in church choirs ("He who sings, prays twice": St. Augustine), lectoring at church, fishing, woodworking, and golfing.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by Baby Brother John Tomaski, a sister, Veronica Calderwood, and brother, Tony Tomaski.

Surviving are Nellie, his devoted wife of 62 years, daughter, Michele (Tom) Pfrogner, and granddaughter Tracie Marie, whom he enjoyed and adored. Other survivors include nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Carl Kish on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church with a visitation one hour prior in the church. Entombment will be at All Souls Cemetery, Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus Charities, One Columbus Plaza, P.O. Box 1966, New Haven, CT. 06509-1966, or a charity of choice.
