Obituary

HOWLAND - Gertrude Pauline Ochtyun, 94, of Howland, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at St. Joseph Health Center.

Gertrude was born Feb. 18, 1917, in Duquesne, Pa., the daughter of John and Anna Hruby Hoblak Sr. She was the fourth child of 11 and the longest surviving sibling.

Gertrude came to Warren in 1936 and started work at Packard Electric Company where she worked intermittently for nine years.

On March 30, 1937, she married Joseph Ochtyun in SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, and they were married for 44 years until Joseph's death on May 8, 1981.

Two daughters survive Gertrude. She is the cherished mother of Janet Mae (Eugene) Cook of Howland and the devoted mother of Martha Joyce Ochtyun of Orange Village Care Center in Masury. Gertrude has four grandsons, Kevin Cook, Brian (Audrey) Cook, Colin (Celine) Cook and Shawn Cook and five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Benjamin, Andrew, Jeremie and Gabrielle.

In addition to her husband and parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by 10 siblings, John, Anna, Frank, Irene, Elizabeth, Helen, Rose, Martha, Lawrence and Eleanor.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, with a rosary service at 5:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. at Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 180 Belvedere Ave. N.E., Warren, preceded by a 10 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.
