Guy William
Costello
January 25, 1967 – May 13, 2026
Warren - There are people who move through the world making it better just by being in it. Guy William Costello was one of those people. Guy, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, teacher, coach, and friend to all who knew him, passed away surrounded by family on May 13, 2026, and those who love him felt his loss immediately. He fought a courageous four-year battle with ALS with the same strength he brought to everything else in his life. Guy lived as he loved, with his whole heart, his hands always extended to help someone else.
Guy was born to Guy Gerald Costello and the late Patricia Louise Costello, and grew up surrounded by the family he would spend his life cherishing. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Kyprianou Costello; his son, Guy (Jasmine); and his daughters, Kara and Rena. His father, Guy Gerald Costello, carries on his memory alongside Guy's sisters: Marla LaMarca (Gene), Michele Costello-Lettau (Mike) and Marcy Costello-Barnes (Brian); sisters-in-law Annette Kyprianou Wu (Charles), Christa Liakaris (Nick) and brother-in law, George Kyprianou (Shari), his mother-in law Pat Kyprianou and the late Ted Kyprianou, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins who adore him.
Guy spent his career doing what he did best by teaching, coaching, and quietly changing lives. Guy was a teacher at Leetonia High School and a basketball coach, and he devoted his career to serving others. His students loved him. He had a way of knowing what someone needed before they said it, whether that was a push, a word of comfort, or just someone to sit with them until they figured things out themselves. His advice was the kind you actually took, because it came from a place of genuine care and no judgment. When his school community wanted to show him what he meant to them, they showed up in kind rallying together under the name "Costello's Crew." That said everything.
Guy was a man who brought history alive, not just in the classroom, but out in the world. He was a Civil War reenactor and, alongside his brother-in-law Mike, donned armor for Roman Gladiator reenactments at local festivals and events. Long before that, as a kid growing up in the 70s, he organized the neighborhood kids into a football team called the Beechwood Bombers and carried that same spirit into adulthood, when he helped create the BCFL tag (or sometimes more) football team with his father and brothers-in-law in rain, snow or shine. He didn't just participate in life. He created things, gathered people and made memories.
Guy loved animals, lifting weights and Krav Maga-all leading to many comical escapades in his lifetime. When he needed to come back to himself, Guy went fishing on his bass boat or participated in organized Airsoft leagues with his son. He was always the funniest guy in the room and his humor lives on through his children. His love of music carried him throughout his life and into the next.
What those who loved Guy will carry with them is not just the loss of him, but the gift of having known him: the laughter, the listening, the showing up. He made everyone around him feel like they mattered, because to him, they did.
Rest easy Guy. You will forever be missed. Now, you and Tab can take walks together.
Lastly, among his many famous quotes, "I'll see you on the beach."
