Warren – Guy Anthony Schiavone, 92, passed away on Thursday afternoon, September 5, 2024 at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland.
Guy was born on February 17, 1932 in Youngstown, OH, a son of Antonio and Rosina Schiavone.
Guy grew up in Brier Hill, living above his parents' grocery store on Oakland Avenue. He graduated from Ursuline High School in 1951, where he played football as a fullback. He was also a member of the Ursuline basketball team that won a city championship and also lettered in track and bowling. Guy served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954 and is a veteran of the Korean War.
Guy began his career in 1954 as an owner of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Youngstown and in 1957 started a studio in Warren. In the late 1970s, he became an area franchisor for the state of Ohio and went on to become a major stockholder and board member for the Fred Astaire Dance National Corporation. Guy's distinguished career spanned 60 years, the longest of anyone in the Fred Astaire Dance Corporation history.
In his leisure time, Guy was an avid and accomplished card player who played with friends at the Trumbull Country Club and, in his last years, played gin at the Buckeye Club.
Guy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan; sons, Guy (Lori) Schiavone of Satellite Beach, FL and Randy (Shari) Schiavone of Alta Loma, CA; daughter, Tiffany (Brian) Yokley of Plymouth, MI; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Guy is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Schiavone; two brothers, Sam and Ralph and two sisters, Marie and Lena.
Guy's family will honor him with calling hours on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 11 to 12 noon at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.
A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 12 noon.
Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors.
