Obituary

WARREN - Helen B. Dubasik, 89, of Warren, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011 at St. Joseph Health Center.

Helen was born July 24, 1921 in Chestnut Ridge, Pa., the daughter of the late Paul and Zuzzi Swardel Marchin. She attended Cortland schools.

Helen was a member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and a volunteer of the Pierogi group of the church. She also enjoyed being with her friends from the St. Joseph Hospital Chapel masses.

Helen retired from General Electric Ohio Lamp in Warren after 28 years where she worked in various departments. She also worked and continued to work at Avalon Inn serving her family, friends and well-known celebrities as a banquet waitress for 35 years retiring at age 80.

Helen's husband, George J. Dubasik, whom she married May 27, 1944, passed away Feb. 22, 1965.

Helen is survived by her children, George Larry (Janet) Dubasik of Cortland, John (Denise) Dubasik of Warren and Susan (Tod) Simmons of Cortland; her sisters, Margaret (Amil) Roscoe and Catherine Johnson, and sister-in-law, Virginia Marchin, all of Cortland; her grandchildren, Brian (Melanie) Dubasik of Middlefield, Amy (Aaron) Lint of Ravenna, Jeremy Simmons of Florida and Zachary (Sarah) Dubasik of Aurora; and great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Chloe and Elli Dubasik, Oscar and Emerson Lint, Logan Simmons and Lara Root.

In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by brothers John and George Marchin, sisters Ann Gaydar, Eleanor Paajanen and Dorothy Marchin and an infant great-grandson, Cole Christian Dubasik.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with Fr. James Walker presiding, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery.
