Obituary

Howland - Jean M. Kacmar, 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 9:50 a.m. at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland, with family at her side. She was born July 10, 1925 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania the daughter of Stephen and Catherine (Pepson) Phillips. After graduating from Uniontown High School and California State Teacher's College in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Jean taught elementary school in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania and later she taught in Warren, Ohio and Lordstown, Ohio School Districts. Jean married Frank D. Kacmar, June 23, 1949 in Dearth, PA. Jean was a long-time member of Christ Our King Catholic Church in Warren, Ohio, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society and taught CCD. She was also a member of the National Slovak Society. Jean was elected to the first Lordstown Village Council. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She is survived by her three children Karen (John) Ward of Bloomsburg, PA, Denise (Ralph) Nalbach of Howland, OH, and Frank "Barry" (Chris) Kacmar of Lordstown, OH, four grandchildren: four step grandchildren: one great grandson and nine great step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank who passed away January 21, 1992, and a step-grandson, Chad Frantz. Family and friends may call Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483 and Saturday from 11:30 to 12:00 noon at Blessed Sacrament Church 3020 Reeves Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483. A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 12:00 noon at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Thomas Eisweirth officiating. Burial will be in Lordstown Cemetery in Lordstown. Special thanks goes to the caregivers at Shepherd of the Valley, many of whom Jean considered to be part of her family, and also Hospice of the Valley, for their loving care and support. Memorial contributions may be made in Jean's name, to the charity of the donor's choice.
