Champion - John Valentino, 84, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born December 13, 1930 in New Eagle, PA, the son of the late John Sr. and Mary Valentino. He came to Warren in 1946. John attended Harding High School, Marine Corps Institute, Extension School of the University of Maryland, Marine Infantry Officers School and the Tactical Warfare School. John retired from the Marine Corp as a 1st Sgt. after 30 years and also retired from the Union Savings and Trust Bank as an auditor. He was a member of St. Williams Church in Champion, Military Officers of America, National Association of Uniformed Service and the Fleet Reserve Association. He enjoyed golfing and was a fan of both College and NFL football. John served in the U.S. Marine Corp enlisting in January 1948 serving during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars and was an expert rifleman. He received the following awards: Navy Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with three stars, Good Conduct Medal with six Stars, Navy Unit Citation, Korean Theater Campaign with four Stars, Vietnam Theater Campaign with three Stars Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation and the United Nations Service Medal. He is survived by his wife Lynn Valentino whom he married January 22, 1977, two daughters Laura Lynn (Ken Miller) Valentino of Texas, Terri Ann (Michael) Hensley of Utah, a son Michael Valentino of South Carolina daughter-in-law Donna Valentino of North Carolina, six grandchildren Kyle, and Antonio (Jade) Valentino, Amanda (Philip) Ragsdale, Shanelle and Caleb Smart and Alicia Valentine, five great grandchildren and a niece Pamela Valentino of Warren. He is preceded in death by his parents Stepmother Hannah Valentino, his first wife Patricia Valentino whom he married 1953 and passed away in 1974 and a sister Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Davey. Family and friends may call Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. William Church 5411 Mahoning Ave. NW in Champion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the Church with Rev. Michael Balash officiating. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in John's name to St. William Parish 5411 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, Ohio 44483 or the Disabled American Veterans 2044 Youngstown Rd.
