WARREN - Joseph ''Sonny'' Cetina Jr., 74, of Warren, passed away peacefully at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Joseph fought a long and courageous battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy).
Joseph was born Aug. 10, 1935, in Warren and was the son of Joseph Cetina Sr. and Rebecca Bailey Cetina.
Joseph was a 1953 graduate of Newton Falls High School.
He worked at Republic Steel and later was drafted into the United States Army where he served until he received his honorable discharge. He returned to Republic Steel and continued his work for LTV and later retired from WCI after 33 years.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Warren.
Joseph was an avid Cleveland sports fan, making sure he was always able to watch the Browns, Indians and Cavs. He enjoyed trying his luck at the lottery and took much joy in teaching his children to fish and hunt. He was very involved in the lives of his children with activities such as softball and band. He was also very active with his grandchildren, including watching their sporting events and other school activities. Joseph enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, camping, playing cards, doing puzzles, swimming in his pool and watching cartoons with his grandchildren. He was very lucky to have traveled to almost all 50 states with his family.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Frances Kazimer Cetina, whom he married April 8, 1961; two sons, Michael (Connie) Cetina of Warren and James (Patricia) Cetina of Mineral Ridge; two daughters, Constance (John) Cvengros of Champion and Christine (Kevin) Irwin of Vienna; and nine grandchildren, Brian, Patrick and Tyler Cetina, Ethen and Hannah Cetina, Jennifer and Joseph Cvengros and Gregory and Jessica Irwin. He is the eldest of seven children and also is survived by his six siblings, three brothers, Robert E. Cetina of Juliet, Ill., Eric L. Cetina of Houston, Texas, and Karl M. Cetina of Garfield Heights; and three sisters, Sandra K. Cetina Gailey of Bartlett, Tenn., Joan E. Cetina Thomas of Pataskla, and Kay Cetina Henning of Cave Creek, Ariz. Joseph also is survived by his sister-in-law Joan Kazimer Gilronan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents.
Joseph will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at St. Pius X Catholic Church preceded by a 10:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.
