Joseph Sarsany, 88, of Warren, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home in Boardman.

Joe was born on March 24, 1925 in Trauger, PA, the son of the late Michael and Anna (Krehlik) Sarsany.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Joe served his country during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Joe was awarded the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and was honorably discharged on May 24, 1946 with the rank of Electrician Mate Second Class.

Joe retired from Copperweld Steel after 44 years as a crane man.

Joe was of the Catholic faith and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Warren.

A "Jack of all trades" and master of many, he enjoyed working with electronics and was noted for building his own television and wiring the first home that he built. Joe enjoyed making his annual trip to Uniontown, PA to visit the Mt. St. Macrina Shrine, and traveling the east coast with his family.

Joe was married on June 12, 1948 to the former Agnes J. Sherokee and they were married for 54 years until her passing on September 13, 2002.

Joe will be sadly missed by three children; Judith (Joseph) Cibella of Howland; Thomas E. "Tom" Sarsany with whom he made his home and Mary Beth (Bud) Willison of Boardman; a brother Paul E. Sarsany Sr. of Champion; and two grandchildren Kristen (Jeff) Alberini of Howland and Jeremy Cibella of Howland.

Besides his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by three brothers Michael, John and Edward Sarsany and two sisters Barbara Gardner and Margaret O'Malley.

Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, where a Parastas Service will be recited at 8:00 p.m.

Services will begin on Thursday, October 3, 2013 with closing prayers to be recited at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Service in Sts. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Andrew Deskevich officiating.

Burial will follow with full military honors provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Joe's name to National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon Parking Lot Paving Fund.
