Obituary

CHAMPION - Joseph A. Slomcheck, 92, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Hospice House in Poland.

Joseph was born May 21, 1918, in Filbert, Pa., the son of Andrew and Sophia Vilcheck Slomcheck.

Joseph served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years in Idaho and Montana. He then served in the United States Army 151st Combat Engineering Division during World War II.

Joseph retired in 1972 after working 30 years at Copperweld Steel Co. and also worked at Airco Oxygen Inc. for 10 years before retiring in 1982.

Joseph was a member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling and spending time with his little dog Tilly.

Joseph's wife, Genevieve E. Bugos Slomcheck, whom he married Nov. 28, 1942, passed away May 1, 2007.

Joseph leaves three sons, Robert D. (Pam) Slomcheck of Warren, Richard E. (Sue) Slomcheck of Champion and Joseph J. (Kathy) Slomcheck of Champion; two grandchildren, William (Angie) Slomcheck and Jennifer Slomcheck; and one great-granddaughter, Faith Elizabeth.

In addition to his wife and parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Slomcheck; three brothers, Andrew, Peter and Paul Slomcheck; and three sisters, Mary, Helen and Anna.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery.
