WARREN - Joseph M. Yez, Sr., 93, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010, at his residence.

Joseph was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Woonsocket, R.I., a son of Michael K. and JoAnna Zielonka Yez. He served during World War II, where he was in five campaigns and awarded the Bronze Star for his service.

Joseph had worked many years for the Warren City School system and retired in 1978. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church. Joseph enjoyed fishing, reading, cooking, classical music and gardening.

Joseph's wife, Mary Beskid Yez, whom he married Sept. 22, 1946, passed away Dec. 13, 2002.

Joseph leaves his son, Joseph M. Yez of Warren; his daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and John W. Paluch of South Canaan, Pa.; a sister, Julia Busby of Stratford, Conn.; nieces, Gail Moynihan, JoAnn Tarka, Helen J. Parry, Mary A. Junia, Eleanor Nagy, Susan Colyer, Rosann Carnahan and Katherine Tsilimos; and nephews, David and Nicholas Beskid, and John Didich.

In addition to his wife and parents, Joseph was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Moynihan, Ann Turieo and Mary Kinsley; a nephew, Henry Busby Jr.; and a niece, Diane Beskid.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, with a memorial vigil at 7:30 p.m. and also a calling hour 9 to 10 p.m. Friday at the church.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Pineview Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the Rev. Jonathan Cholcher, Celtic Hospice and the doctors and nurses at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for the care and concern they showed to Joseph.
