(Surin) Gnat
May 31, 1921 – January 7, 2018
Margaret S. Gnat, 96, of Warren, entered into eternal life peacefully Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 2:55 p.m. at Gillette Nursing Home with her loving family at her side under the care hospice after suffering a stroke four days prior.
Margaret was born May 31, 1921 in Bradenville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Krajnak Surin and came to Warren in 1924.
A 1940 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Margaret retired in 1982 from Packard Electric as a press operator.
She was of the Byzantine Catholic faith and was the oldest founding member of SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Warren. Margaret enjoyed swimming, playing cards and watching television.
Margaret was married in February 1947 to John Gnat and they were married for 48 years until his passing on December 13, 1995.
Her memories will live on in her children John A. (Andrea) Gnat of Warren, Carol Alex of Howland, Nancy (Melvin) McRoy of Olathe, Kansas and Joyce (Rudy) Zakrajsek of Howland; and by twelve grandchildren, Amy (Michael) Sindelar, Holly (Thomas) McVicar, Wendy (David) Austin, Cherith (Rico) Mundy, Melanie (Gregory) Gentry, Daniel Zakrajsek, Matthew (fiancée Amanda Williams) Zakrajsek, Michael Zakrajsek, David Zakrajsek, Amanda (Nathan) Binnie, John Gnat and Abigail (Irvin) Titus; and twelve great grandchildren, Gregory Sindelar, Morgan and Olivia McVicar, Alethia, Zoe, Derek Mundy; Malcolm, Isabel, Sydney Gentry; Ethan Binnie; Karlynn and Elizabeth Titus.
Besides her parents and husband, John, Margaret was preceded in death by a son-in-law Gregory Alex; four brothers Michael, Peter, John and Andrew Surin and by five sisters Ann Shafer, Helen Tutoki, Betty Logan, Mary Stelmah and Ethel Ross.
Friends may call on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Kaszowski Funeral Home, 727 E. Market St., Warren, where a Parastas Service will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
A Divine Funeral Liturgy, with Fr. Simeon B. Sibenik officiating, will be said 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 in SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, preceded by a Panachida Service to be recited at 9:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home prior in leaving for the church. Burial will conclude in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
