WARREN - Mary Ann Sokol, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley Howland.

She was born in Uniontown, Pa., one of nine siblings. She was an amazing mom and loving wife, married over 50 years. Her family was very important to her, as was being a mom to so many of the neighborhood kids.

She loved to read romance, fiction and drama novels, especially Danielle Steel. She enjoyed the casinos and loved to play the slots and keno. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan her whole life. She always had a smile and would say, "If you can’t laugh, you will cry."

She is survived by her son, David Sokol and wife, Kathie Britton of Dallas; and brother, Dale Lee Zies and wife, Sharon Yutzy of Fruitland Park, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry P. and Helen M. Zies; sisters, Marie Hixon, Vera Decarlucci and Lenora Sufka; and brothers, Harry Zies Jr., Eugene Zies, Donald Zies and Richard Allen Zies.

Mary Ann was also preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, George Sokol; and her daughter, Denise Sokol Jefferson. Mary Ann was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. She is at peace now, joining her loving husband and daughter, whom she adored.

A ceremony for family and friends will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in All Souls Cemetery Chapel, 3823 Hoagland-Blackstub Road, Cortland, OH 44410.

Professional services are being handled by the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel.
