Obituary

Mary Louise Vogelberger, 74, of Cortland, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland.

Mary Lou was born May 29, 1938, in Youngstown, the daughter of Peter J. and Agnes Snyderwine Vogelberger.

Mary Lou received her registered nurse degree from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, her bachelor of arts degree from Youngs-town State University and her master of science in nursing degree from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Mary Lou was a published author. She wrote articles on nursing topics for various journals.

Mary Lou retired as director of nursing at Warren General Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading, boating, cooking and baking.

Mary Lou was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, where she was a lector and eucharistic minister for the homebound. Also at the church, she was a pirohy and bake sale helper.

Mary Lou was a Red Cross and St. Joseph at the Eastwood Mall volunteer.

Mary Lou is survived by a brother, Peter J. Vogelberger Jr. of Maryland; sister-in-law, Ginny Caldwell of Buffalo, N.Y.; first cousin, Monsignor Thomas Snyderwine of Erie, Pa.; and other cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph C. Vogelberger.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, presided over by Mary Lou's cousin, Monsignor Thomas Snyderwine and preceded by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.

Material tributes may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Heritage Fund for buildings and grounds upkeep or the Lazarus Fund for funeral dinners.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Youngs-town.
