Mike
Pitinii
August 23, 1924 – June 4, 2015
Niles - Mike Pitinii passed away on June 4, 2015, the 65th anniversary of his marriage to his beloved wife, Betty Martin Pitinii. Mike was born on August 23, 1924 in Warren, Ohio to Angeline and James Pitinii. Graduating from Warren Harding High School, he was a member of the National Honor Society and Choir, where began his life-long love affair with great music. He also graduated from Youngstown State University, where he majored in History and Philosophy, his twin passions. He enlisted in World War II and was trained in radar, serving in the 579th Signal Army Aircore in the South Pacific.. Mike returned from the war to find the love of his life, Betty Martin, who would become his life partner for sixty years. They were the first couple to be married at the newly built St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, on June 4, 1950. They with their 7 children worked at their family business, The Niles Laundry, for over 40 years. Mike always said that "big families are for professionals," and he and Betty were masters. He filled our hearts with great music, from Beethoven to Ella Fitzgerald. He read to us, great literature, from Walt Whitman, his kindred spirit, to tales of space and time travel. Mike and Betty enjoyed traveling, especially to Greece, California and North Port, Michigan. He was devoted to his family who will forever hold him near in our hearts. Mike's wife, Betty, preceeded him in death in 2011. They leave their seven grateful children, thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Angela Pitinii; Sunday Pitinii; Diana (Don) Bolger and children, Martin and Anya; Jim (Mary) Pitinii and daughters, Lukea and Nicolette; Cynthia (Rod) Roessler and daughters, Heather (Chris and children Anna and Joey) DiGregorio and Caroline; Linda (Murray) Davis and daughters, Allison, Marla (Will) Klatt, Suzanne and Laura; Anna Marie (Matt) Hood and children, Alfred, Elena and Michael. Mike had two sisters, Elizabeth and Clara, and a younger brother, Nick, all of whom preceded him in death. We release him, only because God wanted him more, to the universe. Family and friends may call Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a Trisgaion Service at 5:30 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. Service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating. Entombment will be in Pineview Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
