Obituary

Howland - Paul J. Horning, 90, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1925, in Salem, Ohio the son of the late Arthur and Hilda Horning. He was a 1944 graduate of Salem High School, graduated from Kent State University with BA Degree in Business Administration, and then did graduate school at the University of Wisconsin with a Banking Financial Degree. He served with 2nd Army and was stationed at Los Alamos New Mexico. After serving he was employed by Equifax of Georgia and manager of the Salem office until moving to manage the Warren office in 1955. He also served as 1st Ward Councilman in Salem. He then accepted a position with the Union Savings and Trust Company as a banking officer until his retirement in 1990. Upon his retirement he was employed by the Tamer Win Golf Club as a seasonal golf starter and worked until his retirement in 2014. He enjoyed golf, had three hole in ones and on September 6, 1959 shot an even par for 18 holes at the Flying B Golf Club in Salem which was a nine hole course at that time. He is survived by his wife Margaret "Peg" Horning whom he married October 15, 1950, two daughters Lisa Horning of Arizona, and Amy (James) Horning Bugos of Howland, two grandchildren Brayden Deemer and Aftyn Bugos whom he dearly loved, and a sister Mary Horning Whiteleather of Alliance. He is preceded in death by his parent's, a sister Helen Radler, and six brothers Harold, Raymond, Vincent, Virgil, Arthur Jr. and Francis Horning. A memorial mass will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Thomas McCarthy & Rev. Edward Beneleit officiating.
