Howland - Pete S. "Pantelis" Sfikas, 92, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 2:30 pm at Trumbull Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He joined the love of his life, wife Bessie (Kontos) Sfikas who proceeded him in death exactly one week ago, Tuesday February 24, 2015, on the same day of the week and time of day. Pete was born November 1, 1922 in Clarksburg, West VA. He is the son of the late Stamatis and Chrisanthe (Skarlis) Sfikas. On February 10, 2015, Pete and Bessie celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary with family and friends. Pete and his wife Bessie, were restaurant owners for 45 years in Dubuque IA where they raised three children. Pete was a founding member of St. Elias the Profit Greek Orthodox Church where he served as President of the church council. In Dubuque, Pete was a Member of the Order of Ahepa where he served as President. On the district level he served as treasurer and Lt Governor before being elected as the 46th Governor of Greenfield District #14. He also was a member of the American Legion #1090, VFW and American Vets . After retiring in 1987, Pete returned to his wife's home town of Warren, Oh. He was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Order of AHEPA #88, Yassou Club and Senior Citizens. Pete served in U.S. Army as a Staff Sgt. in WWII the Office of Strategic Services, the original CIA where he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the British Military Medal of Honor for gallantry in action connected with secret military operation against armed enemies. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bessie, brother Rev. John Sfikas, and sister Helen (Sfikas) Kalmukos. Pete is survived by his three children children Chrisanthe (George) Pirgousis, Stamos (Laura) Sfikas, Anna (Dean) Nikolaides. Grandchildren Andrew G. (Despina) Pirgousis, Kyriaki (Leonardo) Gonzalez, Peter S. (Lindsay) Sfikas, George (Ashley) Sfikas, Vicci Sfikas, Christopher and Antonia Sfikas, Dr. Maria (Andrew G.) Pirgousis, Kirk (Nicole) and Pantelis Nikolaides. Great grandchildren George, Panayioti and Nektarios Pirgousis, Chirsanthe Gonzalez, Stamos, Kiara, Alana, Ariella, and Hailee Sfikas. Nickolaos and Konstantinos Pirgousis and Dean Nikolaides. Pete lived his life with honor, integrity, strength and honesty. He dedicated his life to his wife, family and his church. He was the Patriarch of our family. There are no word to describe the impact he has had on our lives and everyone he met. His goal was to protect and care for his family and he accomplished it. We all will strive to continue his legacy and follow in his foot steps. Family and friends may call on Friday, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a 5:15 p.m. AHEPA Service, a 5:30 p.m. Trisagion Service and a 6:00 p.m. Military Service and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren, Ohio. Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with Father Costantine Valantasis Proestamenos officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
