Robert M. Cashman, 91, of Warren, passed away peacefully January 5, 2014.

Born August 25, 1922 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Robert was the loving son of Maurice and Edith (O'Connor) Cashman.

Bob was a 1940 graduate of Howland High School.

A Veteran of the United States Army, Bob served his country during World War II; serving three years in the South Pacific as a member of the Headquarters Battery 383rd Anti-Aricraft Artillary Automatic Weapons Battalion and received a Bronze Star upon honorable discharge for meritorious service to his country.

Before entering the Army, Bob began his early work career as a District Manager for the Warren Tribune Chronicle. After returning from the war, in 1946 he started his career at Packard Electric and received his Industrial Engineering degree from the General Motors Institute, now Kettering University, in 1951.

In the 1950's and 1960's, Bob held several management positions at General Motors, including Director of Production Control and Purchasing and Director of Quality Control. In 1975, he was named Manufacturing Manager for all of General Motors Warren plants and Director of all Warren Operations a title in which he held until his retirement in 1980. He was elected into the Packard Electric Excellence Hall of Fame in 2003.

Throughout his life, Bob dedicated his time and talents to a number of charitable organizations. He was past president of the Catholic Charities Board of the Diocese of Youngstown, past president of the Advisory Board of Catholic Social Services of Trumbull County and also served as President on the Boards of the United Way of Trumbull County and the Trumbull County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Bob was a long time Board member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation and long time advisor to The Sisters of the Humility of Mary, who honored him in 2005 with the Mother Madalaine Award. Similarly, he devoted countless hours as financial advisor to The Sisters of Notre Dame in Chardon, Ohio.

Robert was an active member and outstanding supporter of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish-St. James Church in Warren, serving as its financial director for many years. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 620 of Warren, Ancient Order of Hibernians Sean McBride Division, the Chamber of Commerce and the Warren Kiwanis Club.

An avid outdoors man, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting and working at his lake in Pennsylvania and his farm in Kinsman.

His best friend and fellow outdoorsman, Robert Karl of Warren, once wrote that Bob lived out his mottoes: "Be Fair, Be Firm, Be Friendly", "Do No Harm", and "Be Honest in Word and Deed".

Robert leaves behind his eleven nieces and nephews who will always cherish the memory, advice and guidance of their "Uncle Bob". "Uncle Bob" was always there for his nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was a lifelong friend to many and a pillar of the Warren community who will be greatly missed.

Besides his parents, Bob was a dedicated brother and was preceded in death by his three sister, Mrs. Paul (Joan) Miller, Mrs. Jim (Anna Mae) Dunphy and Miss Dorothy Cashman.
