Warren - Robert R. "Whitey" Pollnow, Jr., 69, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 at his residence. He was born January 8, 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of the late Robert R. and Dorothy Pollnow, Sr. Robert was a 1963 graduate of Youngstown Ursline High School where he played and lettered in baseball and basketball and and was named to the All City Basketball Team. He moved to Warren in 2012 and retired from Thomas Steel Strip as the IT Manager after 22 years. He had previously worked at Republic Steel in Warren. He attended Blessed Sacrament Church. Robert was a member of the Warren City Hardball league and played for Stauffers Baseball Team and was a staunch supporter of Equine sports. He was an avid reader, sports fan and a Youngstown History Buff. He is survived by his wife Mary Pollnow whom he married December 21, 1985, four children Melanie (Troy) McClure of Harvest, Alabama, Molly (Tyler) James of Warren, OH, Billy (Fiancee Bernadette Mangan) Melago of Youngstown, OH, and Jill Pollnow of Niles, OH, five grandchildren Colby, Madeline, Nathan, Natalie and Kaitlin, and a brother David (Shelly) Pollnow of Phoenix, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Chad Pollnow and grandson Mason. Family and friends may call Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel in Warren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Thomas Eisweirth officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Warren Family Mission 361 Elm Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44482.
