M (Zackeroff) Slyk
June 21, 1938 – February 9, 2015
Sandra M. Slyk, 76, of Howland Township, entered into eternal life on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 4:42 a.m. with her loving family by her side at Covington Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Columbiana following a courageous battle with Lou Gherig's disease.
Sandra was born on June 21, 1938 in Warren, the daughter of the late Peter and Kathryn (Kostyshak) Zackeroff and was a lifelong area resident.
A 1956 graduate of Howland High School, Sandy was a homemaker and a member of SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Warren.
Sandy is survived by her loving family. Her husband, Richard "Dick" Slyk; two sons Dr. Michael (Dr. Tina) Slyk of Howland and David Slyk of Pittsburgh; a brother Richard (Sandra) Zackeroff of Warren; four grandchildren Hunter, Kaylee, Bailey and Hayden Slyk and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by a son Joseph R. Slyk.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, where a Panachida service will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
A Funeral Liturgy will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church with the V. Rev. Andrew J. Deskevich officiating, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home prior in leaving for the church.
Burial will follow in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
As a sign of sympathy and condolence, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Mrs. Slyk's name be directed to either the ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter, 6155 Rockside Road, Independence, Ohio 44131 or to SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 180 Belvedere Ave NE, Warren, Ohio 44483.
