Cortland - Stanley James Georgiow, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at St. Joseph's Health Center. He was born on December 15, 1931 to James and Catherine (Lasker) Georgiow in Philadelphia, PA. He was married to Agapi Vachicouras on June 16, 1968 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia, PA, where he had spent his childhood singing in the youth choir. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 through 1955, and received the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a Freemason for over 50 years, achieving the 32nd degree. He worked for many years at Hanscom Bakery in Philadelphia, then as a district manager for Jack's Cameras until his retirement. Stanley was best known for his welcoming and generous nature, always inviting others into his home and making them feel like important members of his family. He is survived by Agapi Georgiow, his wife of 48 years; his sister Zoe Sertefidis of Thessaloniki, Greece; his son, James (Marjorie Brenner) of New York, NY; his daughter, Katherine Constantine (Frank) of Cortland, OH, and his grandchildren Frank, Thomas, Karla, Joseph, Emilia, and Madelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, George Georgiow. Family and friends may call on Saturday, November 12th from 9:00-10:00 am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 429 High St. NE, Warren, Ohio, with the funeral immediately following.
