Obituary

Howland - Stephen J. Petrosky, 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland with family by his side. He was born April 10, 1937, in Warren, the son of Stephen and Twila Petrosky. Steve was a graduate of Howland High School class of 1955. Steve worked at Republic Steel,he was a Fuller Brush Representative, he worked at the Rackett Store in Warren and he also worked for Winfield Plumbing and Heating in Cortland. Since 1970, Steve was self-proprietor of his business, Petrosky Plumbing and heating for 40 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed golf, fishing, trips to Canada and conducting "board meetings" with his Ridge Road Friends. Raptis Restaurant was frequent spot for him to dine and have coffee with his buddies. He will be remembered for his summer neighborhood picnics and Christmas parties, especially the ice cream truck, golf cart rides, inflatable rides and Santa with the big red bag filled with toys for all the children. Steve will be remembered and as a loving and supportive father. He installed a strong work ethic, character and love for family in his children. Some of his favorite memories were encouraging and assisting his son. Steve with the Soap Box Derby race cars for five years. He proudly cheered him to victory in 1971. While his three daughters were growing up, he attended and supported dance recitals and Saturday dance lessons for more than 45 years. As his grandchildren were involved in sports and other programs he attended many practices and events. Steve went to Texas through the years to enjoy his grandchildren. He had many fond memories with them playing Peter Pan putt-putt, going to Zilker Park and Schlitterbahn Water-park. His love for his children and grandchildren was his main source of strength and comfort especially during his later years. Stephen is survived by son Steve (Mary Claire) Petrosky of Texas and daughters, Brenda (Al) Crouse of Cortland, Sharon Petrosky of Hawaii, and Debbie (Jeff) Moody of Howland, Also surviving are his seven grandchildren, Dr. Abbey Crouse (Ray) Porea of North Canton, Nicholas Moody of Brooklyn, NY., Eric Moody of Toledo, Daniel Moody of Boston, Mass, Leah Moody of Howland, Sarah (Fiance John Moore) Petrosky and Sophie Petrosky of Texas; brother Dennis (Margaret) Petrosky of Howland and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2015, with a service immediately following at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Barb, Jennifer and Amy for their kindness and compassion and to Ronnie and Harbor Light Hospice for their special care and support to Steve and the family.
