Velma B. Marcinko, 90, of Warner Robins, GA, and formerly of Warren, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 2:10 a.m. in Peachbelt Health and Rehabilitation Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.
Velma was born June 1, 1924 in Uniontown, PA, the daughter of the late George and Amelia (Gengel) Oros and lived most of her life in Warren. Velma was a graduate of Collier High School.
Throughout her life, Velma worked at various jobs to help support her family.
Velma enjoyed cooking, baking and traveling. In her travels, she visited all 50 states and various religious sites and landmarks, including the Shrines of Fatima, Lourdes, Medugorje and Guadalupe. She also visited the Vatican City and the Holy Land.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Warren and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was an active supporter of her political party. She was a pirohy volunteer at SS.Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Warren and a member of First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union #422 and member of the SCOPE.
Velma was married on September 14, 1946 to Stephen William Marcinko and they were married for 51 years until his passing on July 15, 2008.
She is survived by two daughters Cindy Cross of Centerville, GA and Amy Cochran of Montgomery Center, VT; two sons Steven (Gena) of Howland and Gregory M. (Andrea) of Champion; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Steve, Velma was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:40 a.m. in the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, where closing prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday before leaving for the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard R. Schmalzried officiating.
Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Velma's name to The Restoration Fund at St. Mary's Church, 232 Seneca Ave NE, Warren, Ohio 44481 or to the Alzheimer's Association P.O. Box 74924, Cleveland, Ohio 44194
