Champion – Virgil A. Sellars, 93, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Community Skilled Nursing Home.
He was born November 13, 1923, in Krebs, Oklahoma, the son of the late Anthony "Tony" and Mary Sellars.
Virgil came to Warren in 1942. He retired from Van Huffel Tub Corporation as a machine operator, set-up-man and group leader after 43 years. He was a member of St. William Church in Champion, Trumbull County DAV#11, and the VFW #1090 life member. He enjoyed gardening, watching Notre Dame Football and spending time at his cottage in Saybrook, Ohio, on Lake Erie.
Virgil served our Country in the U.S. Army in Normandy in Northern France in the European Theater as a private first class, Company L, in the 330 th Infantry, Ohio 83 rd Division. Virgil received the fallowing decorations and citations Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the EAME Ribbon with three Bronze Service Stars.
He is survived by his two sons Charles (Beth) Sellars of Sherman, TX, and Philip A. (Dianne) Sellars of North Jackson, four grandchildren Matthew (Elizabeth) Sellars, Sarah Sellars. Rachael Blasegame, and Jessie (Kyle) Countryman, seven great grandchildren McKenzie, Natalie, Nathaniel, Ayden, Ireland, Tyler, and Kason, and a sister Angela Tombar of Champion, and a sister-in-law Pauline Sellars of Mansfield.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Loretta Sellars whom he married September 29, 1956 and passed away May 20, 2007, two brothers Nick and Dominic Sellars, and three sisters Lucy Superak, Beatrice Mocella and Minnie Cioffi.
Family and friends may call Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. William Church 5411 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, Ohio 44483.
A Mass will follow with Rev. Michael D. Balash officiating.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Virgil's name to St. William Church 5411 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, Ohio 44483.
